Vashon Island

Vashon Island is a picturesque rural island, only about a fifteen-minute ferry ride from the City of Seattle. The island is known for its active arts community and cultural activities, as well as for its many small farms, environmental ethic, hiking trails and a small downtown village with art galleries and restaurants. Prior to WWII, Vashon was home to many Japanese-American farmers. Today, people of Vashon are working to honor that history through the renovation of the Mukai residence, which was home to a Japanese American strawberry farmer. In addition, the Vashon Historical Society is building an exhibit that documents the Japanese American experience on Vashon Island.

ヴァション・アイランドはシアトルからフェリーで約15分の美しいのどかな島です。芸術活動や文化活動が盛んなことで知られ、いくつもの小さな農家、ハイキングトレイル、絵の展示場やレストランのある小さなダウンタウンの町もあります。第二次世界大戦の前、ヴァションには多くの日系アメリカ人農家が住んでいました。今日、ヴァションの人々は、当時苺農家であった日系アメリカ人ムカイ家の邸宅の改築などを通して、その歴史に尊敬の念を表しています。また、ヴァション歴史協会では、ヴァション・アイランドにおける日系アメリカ人の歴史的資料の展示を行っています。
